An Interview with Helen Child

Helen Child is an experienced prepaid card consultant with many years of experience. Having founded and directed the G-T-P Group, she is now the chief prepaid specialist at Striding Edge Ltd.

We presented Helen Child with a range of interview questions, which she kindly answered.

  1. What’s your biggest fear?

Helen Child: The one I’ve not been able to conquer is parachuting …I once jumped off the side of a cliff in France wearing a parachute and ski’s.  It was the single most frightening thing I have done.  Ever!  The paraponting instructor gave me directions remotely through a head set in French, so by the time I had translated them into English and then worked out my left cord from my right one (left’s and right’s as with many females often get muddled in our first language!!) a supposedly serene experience was anything but…

  1. What was the last film you saw at the cinema?

Helen Child: British Airways have this great new in-flight film system which I was lucky enough to ‘play’ with recently.  So I’ve seen quite a few…good old George Clooney in The Descendants.  I cried my way through War Horse – I was amazed it didn’t win an Oscar.  The Iron Lady was another good one too – Meryl Streep was just incredible and so very brave to tackle the traumas of dementia.

  1. What is your favourite chocolate?

Helen Child: Just one with SO much choice?  Green and Black’s White chocolate, closely followed by their Butterscotch one.  I adore the fudge from The Fudge Shop in Penrith – now that’s a treat.  (And takes a few miles to run off too).

  1. What is your earliest childhood memory?

Helen Child: Sitting in the saddle with my Mum holding me – from that day my passion for horses was born.

  1. What is your favourite colour?

Helen Child: It has to be green – it’s a certain shade of lime green though, known to those around me affectionately as ‘H’s Green’!  I brighten up everywhere I can with it.

  1. What is your favourite film ever and why?

Helen Child: Too many to single just one out.  I love a movie that is still with you the next day – one that provokes you to think or inspires you to re-evaluate.

  1. Are you looking forward to the Olympic Games?

Helen Child: Of course!  It’s wonderful that we are hosting the games.  You can’t fail to be inspired by the personal dedication, determination and self-sacrifice professional athletes make to achieve their peak performance.   I’ve bought my nephew’s & nieces Pride of Lion mascots…I can’t wait to see the torch pass on 22nd June 2012.  Yes, I’m looking forward to it.
